The Arizona Latino Commission is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and expanding the Faithbased Initiative here in Arizona ALC fills an important role as the liaison between goverment and the faith community. The main purpose of ALC is to provide information to the faith community about government projects that could involve faithbased providers of services and to provide government a point of access to the faith community in order to facilitate these projects. In the past, there has been a gap between government and the faith community. Churches and FBOs were afraid of government which appeared at times hostile to the faith community. Government has been reluctant to get involved with the faith community out of ignorance and fear regarding how people of faith operate in helping fellow citizens. The ALC has a track record in bringing common understanding and appreciation for how the faith community and government may work together. The White House Office of Community and Faithbased Initiates is an example of the progress that has occurred on this front recent years. Federal dollars are now able to flow to FBOs which understand the rules of the provision of government services and the end result is effective, compassionate programs helping Americans improve their lives. The ALC is a trusted network of community and faithbased organizations and leaders that understand the strength and weaknesses of FBOs and what they need to effectively collaborate with government. Being in a position of a bridge between these two worlds, ALC is structured to receive grants and disburse funds into the faith community effectively. The ALC is non-partisan, non-denominational, and inclusive of all faith groups wishing to partner with government and improve our communities.
